01. CHALLENGE

The Problem

Online IQ tests are everywhere, but most are either poorly designed clickbait that exist solely to collect ad revenue, or expensive clinical assessments that require professional administration. There's a gap in the market for a well-crafted, accessible IQ testing experience that takes the assessment seriously while remaining approachable. Users deserve a clean, distraction-free interface that respects their time and provides genuine feedback on their cognitive performance.

The Vision

The IQ Test App was designed with a clear purpose: provide a legitimate cognitive assessment experience with professional-grade presentation. The interface needed to be mobile-first — most users would take this test on their phones during a commute or coffee break. Every element of the experience, from the question display to the results presentation, had to feel thoughtful and polished.

What I Built

The IQ Test App is a mobile-first web application that administers a standardized 20-question cognitive assessment, calculates IQ scores using established psychometric methods, and provides detailed feedback through an intuitive review system. Built with React Native for Web and backed by Supabase, the platform delivers a smooth, app-like experience directly in the browser.

Core Features

Progressive Question Display

Each question occupies the full viewport, eliminating distractions. The QuestionCard component renders question text with appropriate formatting, while AnswerOptions presents choices in a touch-friendly layout optimized for mobile interaction. Progress indicator keeps users oriented without creating anxiety.

Granular Answer Tracking

Every response captured with metadata — the answer selected, whether it's correct, and time taken. This granular data enables both accurate scoring and insightful analytics about question difficulty and user behavior patterns across the assessment.

Color-Coded Answer Review

Users see every question they answered, with correct answers highlighted in green and incorrect answers marked in red. For wrong answers, the system displays what the correct answer should have been, turning the assessment into a learning opportunity.

Psychometric IQ Calculation

Raw scores converted to standardized IQ scores using established psychometric scaling (mean of 100, standard deviation of 15). Questions can be weighted by difficulty level, ensuring harder questions contribute more to the final assessment.

Mobile-First Responsive Design

Built with React Native for Web, delivering a truly mobile-first experience that scales gracefully to desktop browsers. Large tap targets, smooth transitions, and responsive layouts adapt to any screen size from 320px smartphones to full desktop displays.

Anonymous & Authenticated Testing

Supports both anonymous testing for quick assessments and authenticated users with historical tracking. Database schema designed around questions, test sessions, and user answers for comprehensive analytics and score tracking.

05. BUSINESS MODEL

Business Model & Admin System

The platform operates on a freemium model with basic IQ testing available to all users and premium features for detailed analytics. The architecture supports multiple test types for different cognitive areas (verbal reasoning, spatial awareness, numerical aptitude), historical score tracking, and population comparison features. Social features like leaderboards maintain engagement while preserving assessment credibility.

Distraction-Free Testing Environment

Designing an interface that maintains user focus throughout a 20-question assessment. Eliminated non-essential UI elements during testing while providing necessary feedback and progress indication without causing anxiety.

Comprehensive Analytics Architecture
